Smart girl

Bambi is every bit as friendly and sweet as expected, and seems so glad to be in a home. So much so, it's hard to get her to go outside for her evening constitutional before bed! It could be due to the chillier weather we've had recently, but in any case, she sleeps the night through in her crate and waits until she's outside to potty.

Bambi doesn't seem to have any training, but she is super smart. On her first day with us, she learned "sit" in about 15 minutes, and had learned "down" by the end of the day. Her interest in treats comes and goes, so the training opportunities need to be well-timed (clue: hungry dog).

We're not sure if she's spent much time in a house before, but there are arguments for and against. For: she definitely knows what a sofa is and will both jump up on one quickly and lie down, and when told "no" will jump off just as quickly and go to any of her three favorite spots (rug, box, or crate). Against: she was initially skittish about the television being on in the evening, but quickly ignored it.

An especially funny moment was when we played her movie (see previous post) on the tv, and she was fascinated. Her nose was less than a foot from the tv screen and her ears were all perked up. If we hadn't been using the camera to play the movie, it would have made a great picture!

Also funny: our cats love cardboard boxes, and we usually keep one around for them to play and sleep in. The current box has an old chair pad in it, and before long, it also had a Bambi in it. She has now claimed it as her own, and it takes a lot of coaxing to get her out of it, even for a walk.

Bambi is a beautiful, playful girl. We are having a great time getting acquainted.
